OCC

Oregon Conservation Corps of the Umpqua Valley

WANTED:
Youth ages 16-26 to work helping the county for 12 weeks or 60 day working terms.
Wages start at $16/hour or DOE

The Oregon Conservation Corps (OCC) of the Umpqua Valley was founded in 2022 to help landowners reduce hazardous fuel buildup on private property in the Umpqua Valley. Working with partners in the State Fire Marshal’s office and the Douglas Forest Protective Association, we have identified certain areas in our county that are very susceptible to catastrophic wildfire. Following DFPA’s thinning prescriptions, we aim to make the Umpqua Valley more fire resilient.

This is your chance to help be part of the solution to one of the biggest problems that threatens our communities. In 2020, devastating wildfires consumed more than a million acres in Oregon and destroyed more than three thousand structures. With concise fuels reduction projects targeting the most vulnerable areas of our county we hope to lessen the threat to homes and other valuable assets.

As a member of the Oregon Conservation Corps, you will receive, not only a good paycheck every two weeks, but also valuable on-the-job training that will help to jumpstart your career in forestry or wildland fire. Many state and federal agencies are struggling to fill forestry and wildland fire positions. Working for OCC will give you the experience and certifications to be able to fill those jobs. All Corps members will also get the chance to get certified as a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) wildland firefighter.

We are accepting applications for crew member positions.

Please call Ben Erickson, OCC Sawyer Lead, at (541) 673-3036 or email berickson@roseburgphoenix.com with any questions.
