Open Positions

Our Summer Oregon Youth Corps Program provides an opportunity for youth from any school and with any skill level to enjoy the summer working outdoors. Our focus is to challenge crew member work ethic, expand their job skills, and provide opportunities for steady summer employment. All Douglas County residents are eligible for these positions.

Natural Resources Crew Member (Hand-Tool Projects) (click here for the position description)

Recruiting 14 positions, compensation of $12.50/hour 
Two crews comprised of seven youth each (16 to 24 years of age).

  • Spend six consecutive weeks of the summer working on activities ranging from trail and campground enhancement to promoting ecological restoration via invasive species removal. Activities focus on entry-level skill development regarding the safe use of hand-tools such as a shovel, loppers, rake, rogue hoe, Mcleod, Pulaski, hand saws, and mechanized tools such as weed eaters, pole saws, and leaf blowers. 
  • Roseburg Based Hand-Tool Crews meet at Phoenix Charter School each morning at 5:45 am, project sites will vary throughout the Umpqua Basin on public lands administered by USFS and BLM partners.
  • A multi-day camping/backpacking trip may be required (equipment available for borrowing). 
  • Crew members are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available).

Natural Resources Crew Member (Tiller Backcountry Projects) (click here for the position description)

Recruiting 6 positions, compensation of $12.50/hour 
One crew comprised of six youth (16 to 24 years of age).

  • Spend six consecutive weeks of the summer working on activities ranging from trail enhancement in remote wilderness areas, fuels reduction for wildfire prevention in the wildland-urban-interface, and to promoting ecological restoration via invasive species removal. Activities focus on entry-level skill development regarding the safe use of hand-tools such as a crosscut saw, shovel, loppers, rake, rogue hoe, Mcleod, Pulaski, hand saws, and mechanized tools such as weed eaters and pole saws.
  • Tiller Based Crew meets at Tiller Ranger District Office at each morning at 7:00 am, project sites vary throughout the Tiller Ranger District. Most daily work sites are remote and lack cell-service.
  • A multi-day camping/backpacking trip may be required (equipment available for borrowing). 
  • Crew members are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available).

Natural Resources Crew Member (Forest Technician) (click here for the position description)
Recruiting 5 positions, compensation of $16.00/hour 
One crew comprised of five youth (16 to 24 years of age).

  • Spend six consecutive weeks of the summer working to assist the US Forest Service Ecology Program and Oregon Department of Forestry with legacy sugar pine monitoring associated with the Calf-Copeland Restoration Project in the Umpqua National Forest. 
  • Roseburg Based Tech Crew meet at Phoenix Charter School each morning at 5:45 am, project sites vary.
  • For prior OYC crew members and/or UCC students in natural resources/forestry related career paths. 
  • Crew members are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available).

Activities Assistant (Natural Resources) (click here for the position description)
Recruiting 4 positions, compensation of $15.00-$17.00/hour.  

  • Spend six consecutive weeks of the summer working alongside crew leaders and coordinators in the field helping to mentor youth and support program activities relating to public lands stewardship, career exploration, safety, team-building activities, camp organization, supply inventory/stocking, data entry.
  • Position is based at Phoenix Charter School in Roseburg, OR. Project sites determined by OYC program. 
  • Assistants are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available)

Food & Farm Crew Member (click here for the position description)
Recruiting 6 positions, compensation of $12.50/hour 
One crew comprised of six youth (16 to 24 years of age).

  • Spend 10 consecutive weeks of the summer working on activities related to growing and harvesting produce in our school garden, orchard, greenhouse, and berry patch.
  • Roseburg Based Food & Farm Corps meets at Phoenix Charter School in Roseburg, OR. 
  • Crew members are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available).

Activities Assistant (Food & Farm) (click here for the position description)
Recruiting 1 positions, compensation of $15.00-$17.00/hour.  

  • Spend ten consecutive weeks of the summer working alongside crew leaders and coordinators in the school learning garden helping to mentor youth and support program activities relating to sustainable food production & processing, crew member safety, team-building activities, and animal caretaking.
  • Position is based at Phoenix Charter School in Roseburg, OR. Project sites determined by OYC program. 
  • Assistants are required to have current CPR certification (on-site training available).
