Arts & Music

Music I
  • This course is suggested for students who are interested in learning about music. This music program welcomes all instruments and skill levels from beginner to advance. Singers are also welcome. Guitar, bass, keys and drums make up the primary instrumentation. “Rock and Roll” is the genre mainly studied, but this class also explores “Blues”, “Jazz” and some “Classical” among others. The main focus is to learn about instruments, and work as a band to effectively play together in addition to reading music and exploring music theory. This class provides the opportunities for students to write their own music, collaborate in a band setting, and perform for the student body as well as community members.

Music II
  • This course is suggested for students who are interested in continuing to learn about music. This music program welcomes all instruments and skill levels from beginner to advance. Singers are also welcome. Guitar, bass, keys and drums make up the primary instrumentation. “Rock and Roll” is the genre mainly studied, but this class also explores “Blues”, “Jazz” and some “Classical” among others. The main focus is to learn about instruments, and work as a band to effectively play together in addition to reading music and exploring music theory. This class provides the opportunities for students to write their own music, collaborate in a band setting, and perform for the student body as well as community members.  Pre-requisite of Music I or Instructor Approval.

Art
  • This course is suggested for students who are interested in art. Students will work on a variety of projects ranging from sketch drawings to intricate designs.

3D Art
  • This course is a sculptural class where students will be building and manipulating a wide range of materials. This course will provide students with the foundational knowledge of 3D art and design while also encouraging students to explore their creativity.
 
Intro to 2D Art
  • This is an introductory survey course in fine arts. Students will explore multiple artistic techniques and media such as drawing, charcoal, watercolors, and more. Beginning art students will be able to sample a variety of art forms before taking the regular courses.

 

Phoenix Publications
  • Within Publications, our entire goal is to PUBLISH a book in 12 weeks! Students will be given the overall structure they need to format a book and then will be left with their own creativity on how they would like to fill the book.
 
Murals
  • This class will provide a comprehensive introduction to the art of large-scale wall painting, encompassing techniques for designing, scaling, and executing murals on various surfaces, while exploring the historical and contemporary context of murals as a form of public art, often including hands-on practice in concept development, composition, color theory, and wall preparation, with a focus on creating a collaborative community mural project. Students will be broken into 2 groups of 20 to develop two different murals for the school we will be painting before the end of the school year. One phoenix themed and the other some type of motivational quote. You must have taken and passed another Lawson art class to be in Mural. 
 
Mixed Media Art
  • Mixed media is a studio art course that allows students to experiment with and combine a variety of art materials and techniques, such as paint, paper, fabric, found objects, and digital elements, to create unique artworks by layering different mediums and exploring diverse creative approaches, fostering a hands-on exploration of texture, composition, and visual expression through a non-traditional, multi-faceted art making process; suitable for artists of all levels seeking to push creative boundaries. You must have taken and passed another Lawson art class to be in Mixed Media.
